Biography
Jose E Villasuso is a Painter, Craftsman and Sculptor, he was born in Camaguey, Cuba in 1965, and lives in Miami, Florida since 2005. Since he was a child, he caught hold of whatever was around him to create images and crafts to play; it gave his hands and mind great ability. His passion has been the visual arts since childhood, which he has been practicing since the early years of his life on his own. His primary source of knowledge are the great masters of the Cuban and universal art, Fidelio Ponce d’ Leon, Victor Manuel, Garcia Menocal, Picasso, Van Gogh, Wilfredo Lam, Rene Portocarrero, Cundo Bermudez and many others he has studied minutely.
Thus were his first years of life painting directly from Mother Nature, interacting with every enriching detail. Throughout his 51 years he has dabbled in sculpture, both the ceramic (clay), metal, and woodcarving, has worked stained glass as a means of expression in their lamps with colorful prints, but for the most time is spent painting, where he best expresses his emotions, longings, joys and sorrows, memories, culture, recreates traditions, dreams and fears. Villasuso also works abstraction, landscape and photograph. The drawing is a fundamental part of his work and seeks to do every day, but his passion is the human body, the faces, the hands, the expression of a human face and every detail of the body, are passionately reflected in his paintings.
In his works are a mix of magical realism, surrealism and illustration. They are works with deep poetic sense which delves into the human condition, the human emotions in the slight lines of their countenance, their lives and their irrevocable relation to nature, and their shared experiences as fellow human. He tells stories from universal themes, inspired in his own life story and establishes simple, yet deep relationships with the observers and makes them part of his history. His work is energetic, lively and rich in color. His work usually features human beings and their relationship with the environment and nature. Currently his work is developing through oil painting and acrylic on canvas using mixed media. His paintings are distinguished by their originality, color and expressiveness which make them attractive even when facing an increasingly competitive and demanding market.
