Gerardo Tapia is a Mexican artist who graduated from The National School of Painting, Sculpting and Engraving of the National Institute of Fine Arts. His artwork has been exhibited in many countries including France, Spain, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, Brazil and the US. His colorful paintings and unique style create an indelible impression on the viewer. While the themes found in his work can be considered an expression of Mexican identity, Gerardo taps into the casual observers most sensitive fibers through the emotions of his paintings’ characters. The intense colors make his paintings feel alive, creating positive emotions due to their vivid nature. The characters are born from basic shapes demonstrating his commitment to “figurative geometry”, but resemble common personas of our society. Intense vibrations in the colors emphasize sincere happiness, a constant theme in his work. Also, the addition of a nostalgic tone overlaying beautiful scenes creates a benevolent depiction of our memories. The use of complex visual imagery and the iridescent quality in Gerardo’s paintings give the viewer a different perspective on the beauty of otherwise ordinary life situations. |
