Biography
Johanna Okovic Goodman was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to an artist mother and an architect father.
She was selected to attend classes at Carnegie Institute of Art from the age of seven until 17 years of age. Okovic Goodman earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Moore College of Art. She then attended the much-esteemed Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia, Pa. where she was the recipient of the coveted Lewis J. Ware Traveling Fellowship and spent 2 years in Spain and Morocco. In Morocco she had the unusual experience of living with a Berber tribe. Her work is influenced by her many travels abroad and in the United States. The art of different cultures made an indelible impression on the artist. In particular, the Zayanes, a Berber tribe, was a major influence – art was for them a way of life. Okovic Goodman’s travels lead her to open her senses and explore multi-media including clay, installation art and sculpture as well as painting. She works in acrylic, encaustic, and oil and builds her own panels.
She has been featured in many newspaper articles, art publications and television, including Philadelphia Inquirer, New York Times, Washington Post, London Independent, CNN and WFT-TV. Johanna Okovic Goodman has exhibited widely in the United States and in Europe. Her work is in many fine collections in the United States, Spain and Japan.
