Bio Haia Hason – Hai
Haia is a Canadian artist who is Israeli-born and lived in various cities internationally. Israel (on a kibbutz), Brazil (Sao Paulo), Montreal, and currently in both Toronto and Delray Beach (Florida). This has greatly informed her artistic understanding of art and artistic expression. She partakes in the delights from music, literature, travel, design philosophy and fashion as art. However, at her core, is that of the artist. Haia sees herself first and foremost as a visual artist whose genre is Abstract Expressionist - one whose art is as intrinsic as being a ‘twin sibling’. Haia paints from within.
Throughout the years, she has worked and explored medium in a number of artistic styles from the Realist one to what is currently engaging her – Mixed Media. Thus, her pieces (both large and smaller) have a wealth of material combined to form a unified harmony of vision. These include Gold Leaf, Acrylic Paint, Inks, ancient Text and Collage. Haia’s element is color as well as the narrative which she prefers to set in an “open” framework so that the viewer can engage in, and extract from that which has meaning to her/him. Her works have been displayed and collected in Canada and Israel, as well as in the U.S.
Artist Statement
"I am an artist. Art resides permanently in the space I occupy, both internal and external. I see the world in color: rich, deep and ephemeral – mostly the color of the sun-drenched Mediterranean. This vision affords me the ability to explore in a way that is enriching and hyper-cognizant of its intrinsic value. On a number of occasions it has been remarked that the Surreal, Expressionist and my dream-like use of color and imagery (both collaged and painted) are strongly reminiscent of Chagall’s work. All my art is sealed in a rich glossy sealant, which has a two-fold purpose: it protects (ancient texts, memory and imagery) as well as enables the viewer to see his/her own reflection hopefully leading to self-reflection. I profoundly believe in the power of collective memory from both real and imagined images as well as their connection from the past to Modernity...
This has been an important year for me. I have recently been awarded First Prize in the Art Expo at San Francisco (Nov/2014). My works are currently exhibited in Delray Beach as well as having been accepted with great success at a recent exhibit in Toronto (Sept 21-Oct. 6/14). While my artistic and philosophical influences have been greatly persuaded by Yves Klein as well as many of the Dadaists, my greatest influence was my artist uncle/musician – a brilliant colorist as well as a violinist – murdered in the Holocaust - and someone whose life I can only imagine. I strongly sense the innate aesthetics that visual art brings with it to both the artist and the eye of the viewer."
