Born in Santiago de Chile, Tania attained a professional degree in Nutrition in 1994. She spends a short period of time working in that industry while taking painting courses at the same time – which has always been her real passion.
In 2000 she participated in Matías Vergara’s paint studio. A year later, in conjunction with her husband and daughter, she moves to Miami, Florida. As her husband pursues a Master’s Degree, she takes advantage of the opportunity to focus solely on painting and their daughter’s upbringing.
2 years later she participates in a course directed by Pablo Contriciani in Miami Beach’s Art Center. In 2004 she goes through her first collective exhibition in the PIAG Museum of Coral Gables. Beginning in October of this year she will begin exhibiting in Miami Design District’s Artfusion Gallery in conjunction with other prominent artists from different nationalities.
Tania is mainly a self-taught artist, working mostly with mixed media within the style of abstract expressionism. Stemming from her interests and investigations with different elements, she looks to express herself by combining several techniques and materials such as gels, sand, pastes, stone and even egg shells – “The idea is to identify new textures, transparency and opacity effects and color palettes that invite you to get closer and feel.”
She is currently working on a project whose underlying subject is Christianism. Within her artwork subtle biblical symbols and messages are included, which are not detected unless the spectator has advanced biblical knowledge – “I am very interested in furthering the message of Christ through art but in a different proposal, with a style that transcends the obvious and overflows the imagination, awakening the observer’s curiosity.”
