MARIE-THERESE HUNT, ARTIST Born in Haiti, Marie-Therese (Marite’) Prosper, is the daughter of Pierre Prosper, MD. In her early years she had the privilege of experiencing the amazing beauty of the island. Ingrained in her memory was the display of magnificent colors and shapes proclaiming the unique history of Haiti. When she was nineteen years old Marite’ was privileged to be sent to the Vatican as a representative of the Haitian government. Not only did she absorb the style and color of religious activity and art, she also gained a wealth of artistic knowledge by studying the work of master artists in many of Rome’s Museums. Haiti has often been referred to as the emerald of the Caribbean. Haiti at that time was the garden spot of the world as it provided major agricultural supply to Europe and the Americas. The Haitian Revolutionary war drained Napoleon’s treasury to the extent that he had to sell the Louisiana Territory to finance his losses. It is the only civilization where a slave community overturned the rule of its European Government. In the 1960’s Marite’ had to Immigrate to the United States to avoid the horrible consequences of remaining in Haiti. After moving to New York, Marite’ enjoyed the gift of memories she captured when she started to paint early in life. She started to take art seriously when Isaac Soyer, a Russian Master artist, became her mentor. She then became aware of the magnitude of great Art in the world. Her Artist’s interest in design prompted her to obtain a degree from the Meyer School of Fashion Design. A few years later, Marite’ began a new life with an American Husband, Phil. As a professional engineer he had just begun a new job as a Project Manager for ARAMCO in Saudi Arabia. She began working as a teacher of fashion design with her education and experience. The students were from many cultures around the world. They brought her many ideas of design and color with her paintings that she continued to produce. This experience led to traveling around the world, and becoming aware of the opportunity to expand her horizons. When Phil’s job opportunities dissolved because of an oil glut, they moved to New Mexico when Phil began managing projects for the University of California at Los Alamos. She was able to immerse herself in the Art Community in New Mexico while becoming friends and working with Delona Roberts and R.C Gorman. Seeing a new world of wonder and observing the fine art work of the painters in Santa Fe, she was able to join with them to develop a unique style of Art abstraction while capturing a feeling of remembrances. She now resides in Tucson, Arizona, where she paints every day, accumulating a large collection of paintings, Many of which have been sold to tasteful buyers. Her paintings are composed of Abstract/Experimental Art in the style of International artist of today.
