Alice Daena Hickey

Alice Hickey is a contemporary watercolor artist living in Arizona where she was first represented by 5th Ave Art Gallery in Scottsdale in 1962. She originally came from St.Louis Missouri where she studied art since the age of five. Her watercolors expand the boundaries with brilliant color and artistic style, that of her own, stemming from years of practice. Her innovate style of layering subject matter and color lends her artwork an element of abstraction and dimension. Although her subject matter is representational, she also combines collage to accent her work which allows the eye to focus on form, color and movement. Alice's warm color palette of hues such as pink, lavender and periwinkle convey feelings of cheer and tranquility.

Alice Hickey worked as a technical illustrator for Motorola in Phoenix, Arizona and ten years teaching watercolor, oil, acrylic painting, drawing and technical illustration at Yavapai College in Prescott, Arizona. She studied under artists like Ron Machlin, where she learned isometric, trimetric, and diametric drawing. At the age of fifteen she was painting murals in homes in St.Louis and at seventeen she was working as a professional artist for Vincent Price and Rembrant studios in St. Louis painting oil portraits.

Today, Alice paints volumes of watercolor on canvas along with making designs for fabric sold worldwide by Free Spirit Fabric. When she runs out of something else to do besides shows she designs handbags which she sells at Thomas Kinkade Galleries and Allies Ollie. Her subject matter sometimes varies from flowers to fish and her strong reflection is on nature. Likewise upon viewing Alice Hickey's stunning watercolor masterpieces, the senses awaken to the feeling of movement and bask in the warmth of sunlight with the fragrance of dazzling flowers.

By using black line to outline her work Alice juxtaposes the airy ambiance of her paintings and adds contrast. Alice Hickey's paintings have been exhibited and sold throughout the world, and she was honored by the 2008 and 2013 Easter Seals to be one of their featured artists on the Easter Seal Stamp.
