ORIGINAL ACRYLIC ARTWORK
Color and geometry are the driving elements of my work. The subject matter itself is not that important to me as long is it provides an interesting play of colors and shapes. I find something of interest to paint no matter where I go as the diversity in my subjects demonstrates.
I have traveled extensively in the US and Europe, but I am originally from central Illinois with its sea of corn and soybeans fields dotted by farms and small towns. I have lived and worked in Chicago, Colorado, California and Florida, which have all appeared in my paintings. I currently paint in a studio in my home, 40 miles west of Chicago in West Dundee, a classic midwestern river town along the Fox River.
My father was an architect and I was exposed to drawing and the visual arts all of my life. My own interest in architecture comes out in many of my paintings as a sense of place or harmony with the land. I find as much joy in painting a family farm as I do painting the south of France, each offers a unique blend of colors and shapes that drive the painting.
Our family has a condo in St Augustine FL where we spend part of our summers every year so the beach and the sea have also appeared in many of my paintings. My “Florida” paintings typically have the brightest colors and boldest images.
The most common comments I get from people who see or buy my art is the “joyfulness” that comes out from my colors and painting style. I hope you find my work enjoyable too.
