Niels Breum was born in Denmark in 1950. From the age of two his father brought him to museums and noticed Niels’ keen interest with the missing limbs of the sculptures at the National Gallery of Denmark. This boy was definitely fascinated with art. Niels Breum’s grandfather Robert believed that Niels possessed great talent as he was a draftsman and could recognize talent. This was later confirmed when he brought samples of Niels’ drawings to Picasso. During the time Niels’ grandfather traveled from 1950-1960 and because of his political beliefs, he came in contact with many interesting people and celebrities. In 1959 Robert had the good fortune to meet Pablo Picasso and naturally he used the opportunity to show him some of Niels’ drawings. Picasso told Robert that Niels would go very far as an artist observing his spectacular talent. This was the launch of Niels’ career as an artist. Niels continued to draw until 1974 and took a hiatus into the corporate world for many years yet continued to frequent museums and art still played a significant role in his life. In May 2009, Niels and his wife went to Berlin and the Museum Berggruen. It was there that he had this artistic epiphany – to see the paintings of Matisse, Picasso and Klee once again convinced him that he obviously needed to paint. Niels’ paintings are a natural continuation of his drawings and he felt as though there was never a 35-year break from drawing. Niels exhibits in Berlin and Copenhagen and his masterful works of art are showcased in 23 countries internationally.
