Brigitte Martinez

Biography

Brigitte Martinez was born in Casablanca, Morocco and is Spanish by blood and French by culture. This immersion in a multitudinous, Oriental world suffuses both her art and her personality. She studied in Paris from 1979 to 1987, majoring in interior design, graphic design and design at the Camondo School of Decorative Arts in Paris. As a young graduate she began to work on places and objects alongside some of the great names, such as Philippe Starck, and began to produce her first pictorial works. Her creation took her increasingly into the realms of imagery and humanity. Her taste for discovery led her into contact with human behavior experts in the fields of "body and mind" and this gave rise to a simultaneously abstract and realistic painting style. Her work in helping individuals express themselves through art, coupled with her own artistic talents, inspired her to become a art therapist and coach, and she now regularly consults and teaches in Paris and Casablanca. Today nearly 75 collectors worldwide enjoy her work and she exhibits in Europe, North Africa, Asia and the United States. Brigitte Martinez is an artist in constant evolution.

Artist Statement

French artist Brigitte Martinez paints with an understated confidence, and a quiet elegance that permeates the fluidity of each sweeping stroke. One experiences these paintings with more than one’s eyes, sensing a feeling of warmth, the breath of wind on satin, and the cold, impenetrable depth of the sea. Sensual shapes and suggestions of figures and landscapes emerge occasionally from the intricacy of her tightly crafted abstraction.

Other times Martinez draws inward, creating elemental works of freedom, clarity, and a passion for pure color which recalls fire, water, mist, and air. Working in oil on canvas and wood with a duality of styles and techniques, Martinez’s paintings are rendered in both black and white and color, her brushstrokes varying from voluptuously smooth, flowing curves to rougher, more linear and staccato marks.

Born in Casablanca, Morocco, Brigitte Martinez studied interior design and architecture at the Camondo School, Union des Arts Décoratifs de Paris. She later won professional recognition for her artistic works in exhibitions worldwide including in France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and the United States.
