About Johannes Cornelis Keuls (The Netherlands, 1956)
At the age of 12, Johannes Keuls started to make drawings and inspired by the paintings of Van Gogh and Monet, he realized at this young age already that it was his faith to be a painter. Johannes painted his first oil painting at age of 14. At that time already playing as a drummer in several pop bands, the rhythm of the hand played an important role. During the period between 1976 and 1981, he studied first at the Academy of Fine Art in Maastricht and the Artibus Academy in Utrecht. However, he felt frustrated by the educational philosophy in favor at that time, which encouraged individual creativity at the expense of the teaching of correct techniques and craftsmanship.
The paintings by Johannes Keuls have been exhibited in The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, UK, Norway, USA and the Far East: Shanghai and Taipei.

Nature as a theme
The beauty and spiritual forces of nature are always used as a metaphor in his paintings. The paintings can be seen as big landscapes with natural shapes. Strong lines and strokes are directly put on the canvas, making an abstract image of horizons, skies and earth. Layer over layer is put on the canvas through the use of spatulas, making the work powerful and secure. The results are organic, as if colors and layers of paint are fighting each other to find their own spot in the landscape. In spite of the restless compositions, the paintings are in the harmony of their own rhythm.
Musical talent and Inspiration
Johannes is a talented drummer; his second passion is playing music. Touring in Holland with his band, in the 80’s, he went through a very dynamic period in his life. Introduced by his good friend, the painter Pier Dielissen, he became acquainted with the paintings by Chaim Soutine, Edvard Munch, Egon Schiele, George Baselitz and Theodore Gericault, artists that worked ‘by heart and emotions’.
Johannes Keuls is a very passionate painter of the 21st Century, like his great model forefathers of the 19th Century. The result is a combination of respect of the history of the 19th Century European Masters and a very own modern styled hand of the driven passionate painter of today, creating his own world.

"Johannes Cornelis Keuls is a professional artist, educated and inspired by great Dutch painters. His warmth and great personality shine through his work!
I had spent a lifetime collecting Contemporary Art when I came across his paintings, completely by coincidence, in the late summer of 2010. As an avid art collector, I was completely surprised and overwhelmed by the way his work touched me at first sight. The way he uses his hands, spatulas and brushes to influence the intensity of the colors struck me deeply.
I was anxious to see more of his works; I felt a deep connection to his open minded personality, his love for music and rhythm, his fascination for nature, and the way he approaches new views.
Now, Johannes Cornelis Keuls is presented with a great opportunity to show his work in Miami, Florida."
