Biography:
Born in Port-au-Prince in 1984, Christina Clodomir, Makeda is well distinguished in her artistic activities by her sensitivity, her senses of creativity and esthetics. From her childhood, Makeda evolves in an artistic environment. Makeda develops her artistic sense, mostly through dance, which quickly became her profession at age 14. At age 17, Makeda travels to Montreal where she studies administration, followed by interior Design. That's where she conceives and proposes brand new concepts to her teachers. All astounded, they encourage her to keep going.
After giving birth to her son, Makeda, inspired, decides to explore Acrylic on canvas. Encouraged by all, impressed by her hidden talents, she continues and produces forty unique pieces in six months. Back in Haiti, she gets into clothing and accessory design, under the label "Mountain Heights Kreation Makeda". She widens her skills and exchanges with some Haitian artists and artisans such as Carel Blain, Richard Barbot and Jean Adrien Séïde.
After the 2010 earthquake, Makeda uses Art as a pain healer. In April she travels from New York, Philadelphia, Vermont, Montreal and Toronto, to take part in several Art festivals. After a successful tour, Makeda decides to come back home to put her knowledge and experiences to the benefit of the youth, touched by the quake. She worked for 2 years with a non-governmental organization, in establishing, Art Therapy, Creativity workshops, storytelling and photography concepts within institutions working with youth.
Makeda has since her last tour, come back to her canvas and from December 2011 until December 2013 Makeda has had seven exhibits in Port-au-Prince (Haïti), one exhibit in Nantes (France), and she is preparing the upcoming exhibits in the prestigious Art District Wynwood in Miami, where she will be represented by the Art Center Wynwood and the Art Fusions Galleries. Moreover, in Port-au-Prince, the Galleries Nader and Marassa Royal Oasis, have been proudly displaying her work.
Determined, Methodical, courageous and passionate, she knows the full support of her family and close friends." The creation process is like expecting a child, enthusiastic, I cannot wait to see the final product.” so she baits herself to work over her physical tiredness.
The rigor she has imposed herself has progressively taken her towards new approaches of Art. " Art is from creativity, it is at the root of creation, thus Art is the ever ending creation process, and with discipline and Focus the possibilities are infinite!" Today Makeda has chosen to establish herself on her own account and has decided to completely dedicate herself to her vision that is for her a mission where her vocation as an artist, harmonizes perfectly.
Makeda works essentially with acrylic. The objective is to prepare several exhibits per year, and present these in several cities around the globe while transmitting creative workshops to youths and women from all over, awakening the people through Art, in the process of contributing in making humanity more balanced and whole!
Artist Statement:
My creation is a result of paying close attention to the smallest perceivable elements in Nature, first and foremost that of Haiti, where I am from, and that of every other places life has taken and keeps taking me.
My style is generally defined as realistic in which I consciously or subconsciously add a touch of abstraction to, influenced by many styles and techniques during the near 7 years that I have been painting.
Today the universe of plants is my comfort zone, and reflects who I am with vivid colors, precision surrounded by blur, creating perspectives, lights, shades, and color tones. I work in several steps towards harmonizing all elements in my creation. This makes my finish smooth and homogenous.
My art is a reflection of my personality, being a creative visionary with strong determination thus leaving my vision as fully and intensively, as possible.
With my Art I hope to shift the attention of the viewers, amplifying the essential, enlightening the Nature within.
