Karen (KK) Clardy

Karen (KK) Clardy was born in South Carolina at a pivotal time in our country’s history when the civil rights movement and the assassination of John F. Kennedy were center stage. She works out her southern experience on canvas while juxtaposing her love of celebrity culture and hip-hop music with her traditional role as wife and mother to depict
worlds colliding. Her works incorporate vintage advertisements mixed with modern icons, stereotypes and equal rights that make the viewer both joyful and uncomfortable at the same time while expressing how far we have come and how far we have yet to go in eradicating inequality in all of its many disguises. KK received her bachelors of arts from Furman
University and is a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America where she received her gemologist degree. She ran a successful jewelry store and designed custom jewelry for 20 years before pursuing painting full time.
