Luisa Padró was born in November of 1985 to a Puerto Rican family brought state-side by her father’s position in the United States Army. Her mother, a pharmacist, and her father a soldier, raised three kids, she being the second child and two brothers. Following the idea that all good kids graduate college to find gainful employment, she completed her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications at Middle Tennessee State University. Following her graduation she relocated to Tampa, Florida where she worked in education as a Student Advisor. After many years of supporting others to follow their dreams, she decided to pursue her own. She left the security of a full time job and enrolled in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program at the University of South Florida where she currently studies.
Artist Statement
The paradox of that need to outwardly express emotions and ideas from within should fall into the same research category as subatomic particles and space exploration. The existence of foreign territory both outward in space and inward share a sense of curiosity. There is this magic which occurs inside (or what we believe as inside) each one of us that has been and will continue to be expressed through the various forms of art. My calling is to actualize the feelings I embrace for creation and mystery. That which we do not fully grasp contains a pureness and beauty to be cherished; simplify that idea to a childlike perspective and it enhances one’s appreciation tremendously. In other words, what surrounds us comes from within us.
