At 21 years of age, Houghton Kinsman is a bright new face on the international art scene. Having already exhibited at the American Embassy in Cape Town, the South African native comes to Miami, with the view of unleashing his characteristically playful yet emotionally penetrating method of painting. Born and raised in Cape Town his work reflects an upbringing rich in culture, diversity and heritage.
Noting the likes of Jean Michel Basquait, Cy Twombly, Damien Hirst and Dave White as inspiration and influence behind his work, it is undeniable that his work reflects the experiences of his young but eventful life. Having relocated to Miami in 2009 to conquer art school in such a prestigious art city as Miami, his contribution to Art Fusion’s Spring Affair exhibition embodies his fascination with people, their faces and their personal stories. Much like the way Basquiat was a voice in New York for so many years, Kinsman looks to pick up where Basquait left off, a true master and legend has led to the birth of merciless student.
