Born in Brazil, Elsie Garcia picked up her first paintbrush when she was 8 years old, and has produced amazing artwork since then. With a combination of solid academic background and a restless empirical drive, her exhibitions have created excitement, commotion, inspiration and uncountable acknowledgements along the years.
A complete artist, Elsie Garcia has mastered several styles. From her original Oil on Canvas pieces (influenced mostly by impressionists Renoir and Monet), she has also produced several Art Noveau works on Glass (Émille Gallé style) as well as Watercolor paintings and Clay / Textile sculptures.
Some of her most recognized work includes:
- Árvores Brasileiras (Brazilian Trees). It took the artist four years on the road, travelling throughout the country collecting samples, leaves, roots and seeds of original Brazilian trees. The result was an astonishing 23 to-be-touched Mixed Media Panels, stimulating different senses for different people. This itinerant collection has been requested for several institutes for the blind and nature loving groups.
- The exhibition Olhai por Nós (Look at Us) has caused commotion by contrasting delicate feminine silhouettes to coward domestic violence against woman. Elements of both physical and psychological cruelty were explored on Oil on Canvas panels.
- In the exhibition “The New Concept of Modern Art”, Elsie showed sculptures and Mixed Media artwork, exploring many aspects of Mother Nature crying for help, including Deforestation, Deterioration of the Eco-environment and Global Warming.
About her most contemporary work, Floating Cities, Elsie comments: ”Floating Cities is my view of the future. This is the way I see mankind evolving in harmony with earth, after the legacy of destruction and damage we left for the coming generations”. She brings back several styles to deliver consistent, strong, colorful and beautifully finished panels, based on Oil on Canvas and Mixed Media. Floating Cities is the ultimate fusion of different techniques the artist has explored along her career, creating her unique style.
