Jean-Pierre was born in Maracaibo - Venezuela and raised in a mixed French/Venezuelan culture where music and art in general were important pillars in the family. His father, an avid amateur shooter, got him his first camera (Canon T70) at age 16 and JP was immediately fascinated by what he could produce with this device and a little imagination.
In the 90’s, his focus shifted onto furthering his skills as a musician and pursuing a career in computers in Montreal, Canada. It wasn’t until the year 2000 that JP would re-discover his passion for photography while projecting family slides his father had taken in the 70’s; those bright, moving, and beautifully preserved photos projected on an 8'x12' basement wall had a profound influence on his future work.
Since then, JP has approached photography as a generalist, shooting wherever and whenever he feels "connected" with his environment; people, landscapes, urban life, and wildlife share profound qualities and values, allowing him to approach them in very similar ways. He is particularly interested in urban scenes, contrasts, and textures, where human life is often suggested rather than fully revealed.
Today Jean-Pierre lives in Miami and has exhibited his work in well established art galleries in the US and Canada, published selected images on National Geographic Magazine's web site, licensed photos to paper publications on wildlife/travel and sports websites, and done commercial work for various musical projects.
