I am a Boston native and graduated from the Boston Architectural Center in 1981 with a Bachelor’s degree in architecture. As an architect, I specialized in commercial projects, especially high-energy retail interiors. I‘ve been painting all my life, but started full-time only two years ago. Most of my art is architectonic.
I have multiple styles. Expressive/controlled; rigorous/sensual; monumental/intimate. But always with an intense commitment to color. I do very large spin paintings, using a machine that is ten feet in diameter and spins at 100 rpm.
An ‘Artist Statement’ is difficult because passion is hard to put into words unless you are also a poet. Art is not only what I create, it is who I am. Being at work in my studio is like being home. It is my base, the ground of my being, where I get my energy and nourishment. Starting a new work is like taking a new lover. Or like being a young child on Christmas Eve. And finishing a painting I am proud of is the best (legal) ‘high’ I know. My hope is that my work does for others what it does for me. I want my paintings quite simply to make people happy. During this time of hardship anything that evokes a fleeting smile is worth hours of effort.
