ARTIST STATEMENT "Frozen in time is a series of paintings I have been working on for several years now. I am attempting to capture that split moment, that nanosecond which happens on a regular basis all around us that we inevitably end up missing, because time waits for no one. If I had froze time a moment earlier or later, the entire image would be different or lost forever. As time is frozen a pattern often emerges, much like finding gods face in a rust stained grain silo...
I am influenced by the likes of Jackson Pollock, Max Ernst, Wassily Kandinsky and the Surrealists, but not so much by their techniques as their vision, energy, unique point of view and their willingness to take chances. My approach is not so much a learned process, but a home grown technique that has developed over the years. I work in acrylic on board, using any and all methods and tools at my disposal for the application of the materials, which include flat, gloss, mediums and several different types of varnish, relying a great deal on chance effects, building and adding and even taking away if need be until I feel I have reached my objective. ..
I have run the gamut of styles and techniques over my 40 plus years in the art field from photo-realism to impressionism. I now consider myself an abstract expressionist in that I am trying to express my ideas, my inner most thoughts, my deepest feelings about myself and the world I have found myself in. I have visions and then set out to express these visions by nurturing them, working them over and over again, scrutinizing them and finally bringing them to fruition I leave it up to the viewer whether I have succeeded or not."
