“I cut and paste, i always tries to tell stories, apparently (or really) ordinary.
My works are someone else’s stories. I frame dreams and emotions that delight or brings up memories of the good old days, fragments and symbols, histories and fairy- tales realized through the culture of living in the past, the present and the future”. Francesco Mino
Born in Biella, Italy, on the 21st of January, in 1947, Francesco Mino became a textile professional at Biella Textile Institute in 1965. Shortly afterwards, in perfect concurrence with the demands of a town reknown for its prosperous wool-trade, he establishes his own wool factory.
Early on, he pursues his real passion, art.
The work of 19th century’s painters impressionist and landscapist consumes his spare time. His appreciation makes him an avid visitor of exhibitions, art galleries and Italian towns known for their artistic influences. He tries his hand and moulds clay; he experiments with water colours and reproduces his creations in the textiles he designs for his factory.
In due course he travels abroad searching to increase his knowledge and seeking new mediums of growth. Arriving in New York in the early 80’s, he visits MOMA for the first time, Pop art, design, and Futuristic art expand his imagination generating a turning point. He begins investing in collections of Russian Avant-Garde and the works of renowned Italian masters such as Cesare Berlingeri and Giuseppe Chiari, whom he meets during a trip to Florence.
Mino departs from Classicism in favour of Modernism. He retires from his textile industry to pursue the dream he has fuelled throughout his life: creating art. His decision opens the door to an explosion of creativity and inspiration.
Thoughts nourished by years of study and devotion unfold in a steady evolution of ideas that come to life in cuttings and drawings: fragments of everyday life, moments of euphoria, joyful memories and celebration of myths, rediscovered dreams and dreams still to come true, forever framed in the glory of colour.
