“My art is contemporary-primitive. It’s colorful, whimsical easy to understand
and fun to look at and enjoy. I draw with a sense of delight, seeing how colors
interact and please the senses. My blocks of color give you serenity as the eye
travels easily from space to space.”
Paulette Lust’s contemporary drawings are based on familiar moments and
interactions of daily lives. There’s something comfortable and secure about knowing
and understanding what you are seeing. When Ms. Lust draws animals, it is to
show their beauty, their innocence their playfulness and to reflect the happiness
they bring. She calls her art primitive, because it’s spontaneous - not overworked,
the first lines are always her best. You will love to live with her art.
Ms. Lust's unique style, contemporary-primitive, has earned her critical acclaim
and an ever-increasing following among collectors. After working in many
mediums, including oil and watercolor, she became fascinated by the ancient
technique of painting on silk. Her original silk paintings have been exhibited
successfully in one-woman art shows in galleries domestically and internationally.
Paulette Lust’s inspirations come from her extensive travels. Born in Lvov, Russia,
she lived and traveled throughout Europe and the Middle East before settling in
New York. Speaking four languages by the age of 12, Ms. Lust began her formal
studies in art while studying at The University of Texas in San Antonio.
She resides in Manhattan with her husband and two sons.
