Gizou was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. At an early age, she initiated her artistic life and never stopped since then:
First by taking private drawing and painting lessons. Later, she obtained a scholarship from the “Instituto de Cultura Hispanica” of Madrid to study “Frescos and Colorido” at the Academy of Fine Arts de San Fernando along with a course of Decorative Art at the “Fomento de las Artes”, still in Madrid.
Years after, having returned to her country and exploring new medium to satisfy her insatiable curiosity and passion for Art, she registered at the Ceramic Art Center of Haiti where she studied during four years.
With this new horizon, she started to melt drawing, painting and sculpture, using glazes or patina for the finishing touch.
Two years later, she obtained a scholarship from UNIDO to participate in a six months training program in ceramic at Pilsen, Czech Republic.
Gizou has participated in almost all the painters group shows in Haiti, as well as in “solo”, in galleries and museums, in countries like Brazil (2-Art Festival in Sao Paolo), Spain (Madrid and Barcelona) Dominican Republic, Martinica, Senegal, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, France (Paris: “Le Toit de la Grande Arche; and Mediatech, Nantes), U.S.A.: South Salem, Miami,: Alliance Française, Fisher Island Design Center.
Gerald Alexis, Curator of the “Musée d’ Art Moderne Haiten” and member of the International Association of the Art Critics based in Paris, has written about Gizou’s art: “Gizou has recalled in her ceramics the vitality of the colors she used as a painter. Their radiance does not however conceal the strength of her drawing.
… Gizou has many years of experience in the use of clay and glaze; I consider her recent mural size pieces as the perfect expression of her mastery and immense talent.”
