Dani Papa

The nude figure is one of the most alluring, erotic, or stimulating
subjects that can sway perceptions and encourage conversation and
debate. I typically explore the nude body because of its vulnerability
and effect on societal standards. Using the nude form as my vehicle for
expression, I enlist my interests as a grand narrative artist to explore
existentialism through Greek mythology and allegorical subjects via an
urban lens. These contemporary retellings highlight the human
condition and parallel human behavior as allegories that express love
and life.
My mark-making techniques, use of graffiti-like lines and text,
and my exploration of studio practices as an action painter and
sketchbook artist, empowers my spirit to actualize onto the substrate. I
value instinct transcended from improvisation, labored through various
live painting performances and public sketching. My use of pattern is
indicative of my urban tribal aesthetic and divinity while my zoomed-in,
tight compositions embody a claustrophobic appeal that is both
intimate and alluring in nature.
