An artist of multiple origins, Marc A. Badalian’s raw fascination with traditional black & white photography was developed and refined in his travels throughout Europe, and his life experiences in both Mexico and the United States.
A student of Architecture (EPFL) and Interior Design in Lausanne, Switzerland, Marc worked as a freelance photographer for several Swiss architecture magazines. He then earned himself a position at Schuler ID, one of the most prestigious interior design firms in Europe. Marc continued to sharpen his eye for aesthetics when he moved to Mexico and led several projects in nightclub design. He also found himself on the opposite side of the lens as a model for various calendars and publications.
Born of two ethnicities, Armenian and Swiss and being well traveled is paralleled in Marc’s execution – his subject matter is without borders; penetrating, almost manipulating anything and everything in its natural setting with a focused yet unbiased eye. Marc enjoys the “architecture that exists within nature” playing with light, shapes, and patterns to almost extract the essence and energy of his subject. The result is clean, turning the otherwise ordinary into something of mystery and magic.
Marc’s growth as a photographer is best described as a personal, almost spiritual journey, unprovoked and seemingly natural. While he uses his diverse life experiences as a foundation for his work, he credits some of his earliest inspirations to: Ansel Adams, Clyde Butcher, and Edward Weston.
