Christine Dekkers
Christine has worked in many mediums for more than 25 years including oil, acrylic , watercolor, egg tempera and now her renaissance reinvention of 3-D sculpted plaster works series called, “Great lines” was innovated in 2017. They were first created as minimalistic tasteful nudes in black painted lines on watercolor paper. Although they were lovely she wanted these designs to have a 3-D element. The designs sat in her studio for 5 years, then one night while sleeping the perfect process for these designs came to her in a dream. “The dream was more about how the paint/stain rolled off a raised surface creating lighter areas where the surface was high and a puddling effect where the surface was flat or carved low. “ She began experimenting with testing protocols using different mediums to get the desired effect. Plaster mixed with different weights of sand created the perfect look for her Great Lines collection. After many of the great lines tasteful nudes collection were completed she took the process to her Adirondack studio in NY, to see how it would work with Plein Air, in a impressionistic style using pallet knifes as her paint brush. “I immediately loved the process and the results.” “ It creates another dimension to art in planning in advance how the raised or carved surfaces will create shadows in the art work.” “ It creates so many new possibilities that were limited in regular painting." Her ideation is usually first conceived in drawing vignettes and then designed digitally. " My vision is to express arts energy, through color or design, an artwork that will create enthusiastic interest to see further." "When using color as the energy, I want to make the space come alive and dance." When using design as the energy, there must be elements of movement and intensity." Some of her influences include; Tarkay, Toulouse Lautrec and Van Gogh. Christine enjoys pushing traditional art mediums into uncommon environments to represent a new and unique perspective. Christine has been an artist since 1987 and comes from a family of artists and engineers in varying mediums. She is a former executive for a fortune 500 and worked in innovation environments, she completed her studies at Becker College, The Leadership Institute and Thunderbird School of Global Management.
