Jeremy Balthazor

ABOUT JEREMY BALTHAZOR

Jeremy Balthazor has been photographing nature since his formal instruction on a camera in 1980. His passion for the outdoors has informed his unique vision. A well rounded outdoor sports enthusiast, Jeremy has photographed nature from the ocean's depths to its mountaintops, from kelp forests to rain forests around the world.

1993 marked Jeremy's graduation from the Brooks Institute of Photography where he strengthened his technical expertise with the guidance of masters like Ralph Clevenger and Ernest Brooks. The Brooks Institute is where Jeremy met his wife and travel partner, Mimi. Together they have worked and traveled the world since 1991.

Since graduating from the Brooks Institute, Jeremy has worked as a commercial photographer and ran his own commercial photo lab in Dallas. This lab is where Jeremy began experimenting with different print processes, and perfected the art of processing and post-production of his own work.

Jeremy currently lives in the mountains of Southern California near Lake Arrowhead but frequently visits Florida, Mexico, and Latin America for artistic inspiration and recreation.

ARTISTIC STATEMENT

Jeremy's mastery of special camera techniques gives his art unique qualities, particularly when he employs a type of camera blur.

This effects lends his nature photography the look of a water color painting purely by manipulation of his camera, lens, and movement; he is something of a purist and only makes minimal use of post-production filters or special effects. His resulting work is produced on only the finest archival material by an industry-leading laboratory in Los Angeles.

Over the years the focus of art has become more of the natural, the aquatic, and the geometry and colors found within; his final work is a blend of his imagination, experience with camera and creative tools, and the world as seen by Jeremy.

He describes his process as using his camera like a painter uses a brush.
