Jacqueline Wolf

Artist Statement

"Inspired by the power of my photographic images, I thus began my career as a painter...

Self-taught, having traveled extensively, I was drawn by the pathos and humanity portrayed in faces that I captured on film. Each face held a story....a story I knew I wanted to share on canvas. I wanted to paint the purity, the struggle, the despair....everything that helped shape their existence and so visually nourished my eyesight..

And so it was that I began my process by inverting my photographic images "upside down" on my easel. Using bold, wild brushstrokes, my painting language on canvas, I ignore the realities as I paint and focus on my interpretation of each subject. My faces as I create them display the weight of life's burdens, the inner souls of each person....and upon completion, as I turn and place my canvas "right side up" I can see the passion expended through my liberation. i find a constant reinvention to this process and relish the excitement of the chase."
