Biography
Paulo Santos was born in 1963 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He studied at the Espaço Cultural Galapagos Arte in Arraial D’Juda, Porto Seguro, Bahia. Paulo’s first exhibition was a collective one in 2002 at the Centro Cultural Porto Seguro, Bahia, Brazil. Since then, he has exhibited his work in Bahia, as well as at the Westport Arts Center, Westport CT, Images Gallery, Old Greenwich, Inc., and a private residence in Weston, CT. Paulo is a member of the Westport Arts Center in Westport, CT and is represented by The Agora Gallery in Chelsea, NYC.
Artist Statement
"My intent for the work is to portray the mental image that I have about my environment; subjects that I relate to such as the wonder of cities, music, animals, and nature. What I enjoy is the interaction between colors and lines. The focus of my work is moving freely between the mental images and cultural explorations. In the images, there are no conventional forms. The artwork is intuitive. At one point in the process, I’m not painting anymore. The painting itself is creating the images and I just go along with it."
