Biography
Silvia Dunayevich was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she currently resides, after having lived in Manchester (England) and Miami. She grew up in an environment in which art was highly valued. Her parents were art collectors who frequently visited the studios of the great Argentinean masters of painting and sculpture. From an early age, she shared with her father, an engineer, photographer and artist, her passion for the arts and sciences. She used to be by his side at the photo lab listening to his advice and learning from him. He was also an important guide to her reading and thinking.
Silvia Dunayevich graduated in Computer Science and Psychology.
Fractal art gave her the opportunity to integrate her vocations: the computer is her brush, mathematics her ink, and psychology guides her hand to create works that stimulate both the search for meanings and the projection of emotions. She studied at the Toronto Visual Arts Academy with Janet Parke, one of the most famous fractal artists. Later she became part of the group of artists who meet regularly at the atelier of the art master Juan Doffo, a place of artistic enrichment where, under the respectful guidance of the master, multiple creative disciplines unfold and fertile ideas and approaches intersect.
She was one of the winners of the "Benoit Mandelbrot Fractal Art Contest 2009". She has exhibited her works at major museums and galleries in Argentina, Spain, and India. Artist's Weekly magazine published her works, one of which was on the cover. She has works being exhibited at MOCA, Museum of Computer Art, member of the University of the State of New York, as well as in private collections in Argentina and in the United States.
Artist Statement
"My works are based on mathematical objects, objects that may or may not in fact exist but they certainly do in our imagination. Despite the rationality of these objects and their relationship with opt art, spontaneous exploration and playfulness are at the beginning of each work...
Digitally created using fractals, which are graphical representations of mathematical formulas, there is no photo manipulation on them. They are created from scratch in what, in traditional painting, would be a blank canvas. While my art is based on the fractal figure, infinite and characterized by constant repetition of its shape, I take parts of those images to create my work, I combine them, overlay them and apply on them some movement to distance them from the mathematical perfection and approach them to the imperfection of the humane. In this way I attempt to develop my own aesthetic language by using, in different layers, lines, nets, textures and shapes, seeking to bring out a spatial depth...
I recognize in my works the imprint of long conversations with my father on art and science we held throughout our lifetime together...While I create them, I let my imagination fly away free from everyday reality penetrating fantasies and possibilities of a different universe."
